Beyond Blueprints was a pop-up exhibition hosted by Of Architecture and Gubns during London Design Festival. The exhibition premise, inspired by Andreas von Foerster’s infamous drawing of a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, examined the essential, but also interperative dialogue between technical plan and making. Architect-makers were invited through an open-call to respond to the theme of the exhibition with a single-line drawing and a showcase of their crafted work, within Of Architecture’s studio space, which was converted into a gallery for the three day event. A supplementary taster event was also held at the studio in collaboration with experimental ice cream purveyor Matter at Hand and tea mocktail masters, Sanko.

The identity of the exhibition drew direct reference from traditional blueprints, as well as the method in which the architect-makers’ drawing were to be reproduced - from file, to tracing on woodboard with a mechanical cutter repurposed as a plotter. Images of the exhibited objects were treated and distorted through a similar process of re-configuration and translation. Collateral was produced across digital and print, including marketing materials, posters and pamphlets.
